Job Responsibilities
Your specific duties as a Engineering Technologist will include:
- Compensation (Range): $41-$44 / hour: Salary
- The Senior Engineering Technologist position is the fourth level of the non-Engineering degreed technical support role. The Senior Engineering Technologist provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Employees in the Senior Engineering Technologist position are expected to develop advanced skills and work independently with increased latitude for un-reviewed work.
- Reporting Relationships:
- This role does not have direct reports.
- This position works closely with other Duke Energy employees in Transmission, Distribution, Large Account Management (LAM), Billing, Payments, Community Relations, and Economic Development (ED).
- Nature of the Job:
- Occasionally,
- Tasks are straightforward, routine and often repetitive
- Tasks follow set guidelines or procedures
- Employee receives clear instructions from Manager regarding what to do and must use professional discretion to determine how to do it
- Majority of the time,
- Employee must compare alternative courses of action and decide after considering options
- Employee has the authority to make choices that have significant dollar implications and make decisions without specific guidance or direction from the Manager
Always
- Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems in area of expertise
- Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
- Conducts engineering and related studies to prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches with limited guidance
- Strives to continually improve job-related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance of self and junior Extra Facility Specialists (EFS)
- Works as One to develop and promote positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities within group and cross work-group boundaries
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
- Maintains accurate records and files
- Participates in other assigned duties during emergency or storm events
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), OR 8+ years of experience and associate degree in engineering technology (or equivalent), OR 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
- Desired Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer
- Certified Energy Manager, or Certified Energy Auditor, or Certified Demand Side Management, or Business Energy Professional or Certified Sustainable Development Professional
- Experience in the utility industry
- *Understanding of basic principles of project management
- Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
- Good written and oral communication skills
