Summary:
We're looking for a seasoned Electrical Engineer to join a cutting-edge defense tech team on a contract-to-hire basis. This role centers on designing and integrating avionics and power systems for next-gen UAVs, with a focus on innovation, reliability, and hands-on development.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and integration of electrical systems for a new VTOL platform
  • Develop and test hybrid power distribution and avionics systems
  • Select and integrate both off-the-shelf and custom avionics components
  • Build and refine high-voltage and low-voltage architectures, including battery interfaces and power control units
  • Conduct thermal analysis to ensure safe operation under demanding conditions
  • Create and optimize PCB designs for long-range UAV applications
  • Design reliable and cost-effective interconnects and cable assemblies
  • Improve existing systems for better performance and maintainability
  • Coordinate with procurement to manage component sourcing and delivery
  • Evaluate outsourcing options and manage external engineering partners
  • Define technical requirements at both system and component levels
  • Develop and execute testing protocols for prototypes and production units
  • Ensure designs meet internal standards and regulatory guidelines
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the engineering team

Qualifications:

  • 7-10+ years' overall relevant technical experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Strong background in both high-voltage and low-voltage system design and analysis
  • Experience with thermal modeling and heat dissipation strategies
  • Skilled in CAD tools for schematic and layout design
  • Proven ability to create compact, lightweight, scalable PCBAs
  • Experience with UAV power systems and avionics integration
  • Familiarity with propulsion systems, ESCs, and battery management
  • Understanding of RF systems, datalink hardware, and embedded protocols (such as CAN)
  • Comfortable using lab tools (examples: oscilloscopes, multimeters)
  • Knowledge of EMI mitigation and design for reliability
  • Experience with embedded software or firmware is a plus
  • Excellent communicator with cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Curious and proactive in understanding how electronics impact system-level performance
