Job Summary
We are seeking a Financial Reporting Analyst to support the Capital and Asset Reporting and Analytics function within Asset Accounting. This role involves working alongside a team of analysts to conduct financial analysis, prepare regulatory filings, and ensure compliance with FERC, GAAP, and State accounting standards. The successful candidate will have strong technical and functional financial reporting skills, performing complex capital and asset accounting analyses, and driving process improvements in accounting operations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare balance sheet and income statement variance analyses including AFUDC and Depreciation Expense
- Prepare financial schedules such as capital expenditures, cash flows, and footnote disclosures needed for SEC reporting
- Analyze application of AFUDC on capital projects
- Support depreciation calculations and related analyses
- Prepare and coordinate data requests and governmental filings, including quarterly and annual FERC reports
- Provide financial, accounting, and business management analysis to management and customers
- Lead and coordinate special projects and data requests as required
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors, providing information and answering queries
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant accounting policies and their impact
- Champion process improvements to enhance efficiency throughout the accounting cycle
- Work overtime during monthly, quarterly, and annual closing periods as needed
Requirements
- Fundamental knowledge of accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
- Experience with financial applications such as PeopleSoft FMIS, Power Plant, and query tools like WebI
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- CPA designation, CPA candidate status, or a graduate degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in financial reporting, accounting, or related areas
- Experience with monthly close processes, general accounting, and financial reporting within FERC and GAAP frameworks
- Prior work experience in utilities, utility asset accounting, or regulatory accounting environment preferred
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills
- Familiarity with capital project and asset accounting concepts including construction work in progress, plant in service, salvage, cost of removal, retirement, and unitization
- Experience with financial systems such as OneStream, WEBI, PeopleSoft, and Power Plan, plus advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Understanding of regulatory accounting and ratemaking concepts
- Demonstrated capability to work independently at a senior level and mentor junior staff
- Experience leading teams or projects and fostering positive team and client relationships
- Track record of developing process improvements and best practices based on institutional knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to lead meetings
