Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer for Instrument Panels. to lead the design, development, analysis, and validation of instrument panel and console subsystems for multiple vehicle programs. This role involves close collaboration with internal teams and suppliers to optimize system designs, manage product launches, and ensure manufacturability while balancing cost, complexity, and feature content.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, analysis, implementation, and validation of instrument panel and console subsystems
- Evaluate engineering designs and concepts across multiple vehicle programs
- Utilize engineering tools such as DFMEA, ICDs, and PFMEA, collaborating with CAE groups for system optimization
- Assess design feasibility with various manufacturing processes including injection molding, vibration welding, vacuum forming, foam-in-place, and wrapping
- Oversee CAD development with suppliers or internal designers, ensuring best practices and facilitating necessary improvements
- Organize and lead peer reviews and cross-functional meetings with stakeholders from studio, electrical, manufacturing, safety, finance, quality, and purchasing
- Contribute to vehicle configuration, cost optimization, and implementation of product/process improvements
- Balance requirements related to cost, complexity, mass, timing, and feature content
- Prepare and update Statements of Requirement and Statements of Work
- Lead product launch activities and manage changes to support program objectives
- Apply benchmarking insights to improve design competitiveness
- Ensure timely identification, communication, and resolution of open issues
Requirements
- 8-10 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably with OEMs or cockpit/instrument panel suppliers
- Proven experience leading design and development projects for instrument panel and floor consoles
- Strong project management, risk assessment, and process improvement skills (PMP or PMI certification preferred)
- Demonstrated ownership, urgency, and leadership in driving project results
- Working knowledge of engineering tools such as DFMEA and CAD software (VisMockup, UniGraphics, or similar)
- Familiarity with automotive interior manufacturing and production processes
- Effective communication skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, multifaceted work environment
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field required
- PMP or PMI certification preferred but not required
