Trailer Tow Module Design and Release Engineer

Hourly pay range: $44-$46/hr
Location: Dearborn, MI
Duration: Long-term contract
Schedule: Hybrid (in office Monday-Thursday, Friday as needed)
Job Responsibilities
- Develop new trailer tow hardware, software, and systems in partnership with the lead engineer.
- Take ownership of specific parts and requirements.
- Lead design reviews with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Develop and review quality documentation.
- Ensure compliance with FMVSS and other regulatory/legal requirements.
- Oversee packaging of the trailer tow module within the vehicle environment.
- Develop and execute design verification plans (DVP) for system testing (bench, HIL, vehicle) according to program milestones (DCV, PEC, FEC, etc.).
- Track and manage issues in FEDE and JIRA.
- Manage parts release in WERS.
- Support program launches by leading issue resolution and presenting status to management.
- Collaborate with IVI, body exterior, and vehicle operations teams to ensure interface and assembly requirements are met.
- Travel to supplier facilities and Ford assembly plants as needed for design reviews, launches, APQP, and PPAP approval.
- Additional responsibilities may include: FEDE BOM, Netcom Message List, ARXML, Device Transmittal, VSCS, ED&T and Mountain Charts, ESOW.
- Support warranty analysis and quality improvement initiatives.
- Conduct weekly parts reviews with suppliers at the Warranty Parts Center.
- Participate in weekly warranty reviews with suppliers and PVTs.
- Maintain warranty parts tracking and databases (Excel, Power BI, SharePoint).
- Present warranty reviews to management and program teams.
- Collaborate with Quality and FCSD departments on improvement initiatives.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in design and testing of automotive electrical systems (hardware, software, and systems).
- Experience with vehicle network tools, including CANalyzer.
- Product design experience: systems engineering, modeling, validation/verification, DFMEA, boundary diagrams, interface analysis.
- Design release engineering: managing complex systems, coordinating cost, weight, and part numbers.
- Process validation: testing, validation, and assessment of products/designs.
- Embedded systems: strong understanding of complex electronics integration.
- Experience with trailer tow controls is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree required (Engineering discipline preferred).
- Master's degree preferred.
