Overview
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data. This role involves troubleshooting automation and robotics, leading problem-solving initiatives, and ensuring seamless integration of controls into IT systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement improvements to control systems using FIS data.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment performance issues.
  • Coordinate resources to resolve problems and validate corrective actions.
  • Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
  • Integrate controls into IT systems such as FIS, Error Proofing, QWX, and QTS.
  • Troubleshoot machinery, robotics, automation, and controls to minimize downtime.
  • Use FIS plant monitoring software to review equipment cycle times.
  • Review and coordinate project installations.
  • Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and process improvements.
  • Maintain program backups for machinery and automation systems.
  • Program new installations for automation, material handling, and robotics.
  • Participate in risk assessments to ensure equipment safety compliance.

Experience

  • Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with UAW maintenance, vendors, and process team members
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • PLC experience (Siemens, Rexroth, Allen-Bradley)
  • Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills (8D, 5Why)
  • Familiarity with Lean tools (5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, Value Stream Mapping)
  • Knowledge of UL508A and NFPA79 standards
  • Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal programming
  • Fanuc controls troubleshooting
    Education
    • Required: High School Diploma / GED
    • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
