Mechanical Technician - Contract Role

💲 Hourly Pay Range: $33-$35/hour


Job Responsibilities

  • Review and approve detailed drawings or sketches for drafting completion or parts fabrication (machine, sheet, or wood shop).
  • Approve project instructions and blueprints to determine test specifications, procedures, objectives, and technical problems such as redesign.
  • Approve project instructions and specifications to identify, modify, and plan requirements for fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Communicate and approve changes in design, manufacturing methods, assembly processes, and drafting techniques.
  • Review and approve tool‑drawing designs by measuring drawing dimensions and validating against original specifications.
  • Supervise testing of components and complete units under operational conditions to evaluate performance improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze test results, compare against design or rated specifications, and adjust/modify equipment accordingly.
  • Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for industrial machinery, equipment, and measuring instruments.

Additional Client‑Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform complex mechanical assembly, disassembly, and modification of prototype and production automotive systems (engines, transmissions, chassis, exhaust systems, body structures, etc.).
  • Conduct detailed inspections, measurements, and diagnostic testing using precision tools and diagnostic software.
  • Identify discrepancies, troubleshoot issues, implement corrective actions, and collaborate closely with engineering teams at the client.
  • Support fabrication and welding of custom test fixtures and specialized equipment.
  • Document all test procedures, observations, results, and recommendations; provide detailed reports to client engineering teams.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory and workshop equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise during design reviews, product launches, and issue‑resolution processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, test methods, and equipment.
  • Adhere to all client safety regulations, environmental policies, and quality standards.
  • Schedule: First shift - Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM.

Job Requirements

  • Creativity, strong communication skills, analytical mindset, and problem‑solving ability.
  • Detail‑oriented team player with leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Ability to produce engineering sketches, drawings, and perform standard computations.
  • Ability to perform detailed calculations related to manufacturing, construction, and installation standards.
  • Strong understanding of engineering science and practical applications.
  • Experience with engineering‑related computer applications and design software.

Additional Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • 8-10 years of overall experience, including 5-7 years in an automotive or engineering technician environment.
  • Proven expertise in mechanical assembly, disassembly, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong proficiency in reading engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Extensive experience in electrical diagnostics.
  • Skilled in welding and fabrication (exhaust components, catalytic converters, brackets, etc.).
  • Proficient with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators).
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and analysis software.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
