Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Quantum Photonics Research Engineer to design, develop, and characterize advanced quantum photonic devices and systems. This role involves hands-on experimental work, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and contributions to publications, intellectual property, and prototype development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement quantum photonic devices and subsystems including single-photon sources, entangled photon generation, and low-count measurement systems.
- Conduct research in quantum information and communication techniques (e.g., squeezed light, quantum interference, mode decomposition).
- Explore new applications for quantum technologies outside traditional information science.
- Design and execute rigorous experiments to characterize photonics components under varied environmental conditions (temperature, vibration, magnetic fields).
- Support the development of a quantum information test bench with standardized calibration and automated measurement systems.
- Develop, test, and integrate single-photon sources into larger system architectures while maintaining quantum state fidelity.
- Work effectively within cross-disciplinary research teams, contributing to prototypes, patents, and scientific publications.
- Maintain and support a strong workplace safety culture.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
Technical Requirements:
- Quantum Systems: Deep understanding of entanglement, nonlinear state generation, mode decomposition, and spin physics.
- Optical Systems: Proficiency with laser systems, optical design, precision alignment, free-space coupling, and photon detection.
- Instrumentation: Hands-on experience with chip-scale photonics testing, fiber alignment, instrument synchronization, and experimental data validation.
- Programming: Strong skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis and instrument control.
- Scientific Communication: Ability to clearly present results using graphs, mathematics, and technical documentation.
Preferred Skills
- Simulation & Modeling: Experience with integrated photonics design and FDTD simulation tools (Lumerical, COMSOL, CST).
- Electronics: Familiarity with high-speed electronics, PCB layout, and optoelectronic packaging.
- Fabrication: Experience with nanofabrication techniques such as e-beam lithography and etching.
