Location: Lansing, MI
Pay Rate: $45-$47/hour
Shift Requirements: Must be available to work any shift
- 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM
- 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM - 11:00 PM
- 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Position Summary
The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising a medium to large group of employees involved in plant production operations. The role is technical in nature and requires sound decision-making within established standards and practices. The supervisor receives general guidance from management and maintains frequent communication across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively utilize personnel, materials, and equipment to meet production goals
- Meet production schedules while maintaining quality and cost requirements
- Ensure compliance with local and national labor agreements
- Implement divisional and corporate policies and procedures
- Enforce safety standards and housekeeping practices
- Maintain frequent contact with individuals outside the immediate work group
- Keep management informed of operational developments
- Maintain corporate, unit, and departmental control systems and records
Required Skills & Responsibilities
- Conduct safety talks, job instruction training, ergonomic evaluations, and safety incident investigations
- Maintain workplace organization and standardized work practices
- Prevent defects from passing to the next process
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and implement Quality Control Operation Sheets (QCOS)
- Ensure vehicles reach the customer free from damage or defects
- Implement structured problem-solving processes
- Respond to daily production needs by:
- Managing absenteeism
- Responding to Andon calls
- Supporting preventive maintenance (PM) checks
- Managing line-side material inventory
- Identifying and resolving production bottlenecks
- Identify and eliminate waste, including scrap, indirect materials, tools, safety equipment, office supplies, spare parts, and manpower
- Foster a positive team environment that encourages involvement and professional growth by:
- Maintaining clear communication
- Soliciting team member suggestions
- Supporting training and development plans
- Managing attendance and performance improvement
- Supporting team meetings and job rotation
- Partnering with UAW representatives to resolve issues
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead people in a manufacturing environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a participative, team-based culture
- Proven ability to listen to and support team members
- Willingness and ability to rotate shifts
- Bachelor's degree preferred (not required)
- Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or relevant manufacturing experience
