Pay Rate: $37
Must be ability to travel domestically (5-20%) and internationally as project needs, may require for technical support
Position Summary
The Safety Engineer / Designer plays a critical role in complex engineering projects by supporting project teams and site activities related to risk analysis and safety compliance. This role is responsible for performing safety assessments, ensuring adherence to applicable safety standards, and supporting tooling and automated system designs throughout all project phases.
Key Responsibilities

- Achieve project timing, quality, and cost targets.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, including products, processes, and internal norms.
- Develop and perform risk analyses for tooling, robotic cells, and automated systems to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments such as PFMEA, ergonomic analyses, and hazard assessments for new and modified tooling.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, and applicable local regulations.
- Perform safety analyses throughout all project phases and participate in tooling design reviews, providing ongoing feedback to project teams.
- Validate the design and implementation of guarding, interlocks, lockout/tagout points, pinch-point protection, emergency stops, and other safety systems.
- Perform on-site inspections to verify correct installation and commissioning in accordance with safety requirements.
- Verify technical file contents and develop documentation required for CE certification and declarations of conformity.
- Investigate tooling-related incidents, near-misses, and failures.
- Lead corrective actions and support the development of long-term safety improvements.
- Deliver safety training to operators, maintenance technicians, and engineering staff on proper tooling usage.

Technical Knowledge & Competencies
- Safety and risk assessment methodologies.
- Safety function performance level (PL) calculations.
- Functional safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Functional Safety Management per ISO 26262, ISO 13849, and IEC 62061.
- Hazard and risk analysis development.
- Functional and technical safety concept planning.
- Definition and documentation of safety device requirements.
- Creation of technical reports, safety proofs, and safety calculations.
- General-purpose IT tools proficiency.
- Participation in and moderation of technical reviews.
- Collaboration with project managers, developers, and customers.
- Knowledge of machinery maintenance safety requirements.
- Experience with technical documentation, manuals, and instruction structures.
- Knowledge of CE marking processes and declarations of conformity.

Education & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong reading comprehension of technical documentation.
Preferred:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in automotive development (hardware or software), manufacturing, or industrial safety engineering.
- Experience working in automated manufacturing environments.
Language Requirements
- English: Intermediate proficiency required.
- Second language: Preferred but not required.
