Industrial Engineer
Location: Lake Orion, MI
Shift: Primarily 1st Shift (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM), Monday-Friday. Flexibility required to support 2nd and 3rd shifts as needed, along with occasional Saturdays.
Duration: 52 Weeks
Overtime: Approximately 5 hours/week
Position Summary
We are seeking an Industrial Engineer to support battery module assembly manufacturing operations. This role will focus on improving throughput, optimizing labor utilization, supporting plant layout initiatives, and driving continuous improvement efforts across highly automated production lines.
The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical and problem-solving skills with hands-on manufacturing experience. In addition to traditional Industrial Engineering responsibilities, this individual will serve as a key resource for plant layout management, including the creation of facility layouts, installation drawings, and standardized processes for maintaining engineering documentation.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at a highly automated manufacturing facility, helping develop and validate machine-learning-driven manufacturing improvements for electric vehicle battery production.

Key Responsibilities
Throughput & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks impacting assembly throughput.
  • Develop and implement solutions to improve manufacturing efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor weekly and monthly performance trends and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Lead and support daily TIP (Throughput Improvement Process) meetings.
  • Work cross-functionally with manufacturing, engineering, and supplier teams to resolve production issues.
  • Track and improve key performance metrics, including weighted standalone throughput.

Industrial Engineering

  • Develop labor utilization standards and staffing models.
  • Support manpower optimization initiatives using standardized work and labor analysis tools.
  • Analyze production workflows, quality metrics, material flow, and manufacturing costs.
  • Recommend improvements related to personnel, equipment, materials, and facility utilization.
  • Perform statistical analysis and apply engineering principles to support operational decisions.
  • Estimate production costs and evaluate the operational impact of process or design changes.

Plant Layout & Facility Planning

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for plant layout activities.
  • Create and maintain facility layouts, installation drawings, and detailed dimensioned prints.
  • Establish and maintain common storage location layouts and documentation.
  • Develop and manage a standardized change control process for updating facility drawings.
  • Coordinate layout changes in support of equipment installations, process improvements, and production line modifications.
  • Ensure all engineering drawings are accurate, current, and properly documented.

Standardized Work

  • Support the creation, review, and updating of:
    • Standardized Work Instructions (STS)
    • Job Element Sheets (JES)
  • Ensure documentation aligns with operational requirements and continuous improvement objectives.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited four-year institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in automotive production environments.
  • Experience driving process improvement and throughput optimization initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, labor analysis, and industrial engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings, plant layouts, installation prints, and facility documentation.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration abilities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive assembly, battery manufacturing, or other high-volume production environments.
  • Knowledge of Siemens Plant Simulation.
  • Experience supporting automation, machine learning, or data-driven manufacturing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with standardized work documentation and labor planning methodologies.
  • CAD experience and knowledge of engineering drawing standards.
