Location: GM Global Technical Center - Cole Engineering Center Podium, Warren, MI
Schedule: Hybrid (Monday & Friday Remote | Tuesday-Thursday Onsite)
Hours: 7:00 AM-3:00 PM or 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
Pay: $45-50/hr
Position Overview
We are seeking a Wiring Harness Design Release Engineer to support the design, development, release, and integration of vehicle electrical distribution systems. This role will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, program teams, and suppliers to ensure wiring harness systems meet program timing, quality, cost, and performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities

• Develop initial harness parts lists and perform complexity studies.
• Manage wiring system design, development, integration, and release activities.
• Coordinate supplier activities and support technical reviews.
• Maintain alignment with program timing, requirements, issues, and change management activities.
• Support system integration efforts and participate in trade-off discussions.
• Manage cost, quality, weight, and performance metrics for power and signal distribution systems.
• Support virtual and physical vehicle build events.
• Lead or participate in Product Development Team meetings.
• Support benchmarking, peer reviews, wire harness assessments, and launch activities.
• Perform engineering analyses and implement design changes.
• Define system requirements and support testing and validation activities.
• Release parts and subsystems for production.

Top Required Skills (Ranked)
1. Vehicle Electrical & Wire Harness Design Knowledge

• Minimum 1 year of experience with vehicle electrical systems and/or wire harness design.
• Understanding of power and signal distribution systems within automotive applications.

2. Design Release & Engineering Change Management

• Experience releasing components into production.
• Understanding of engineering change processes and working with cross-functional program teams.
• Familiarity with product development and release cycles.

3. 3D Packaging & Design Analysis

• Basic understanding of CAD environments, packaging studies, and design analysis.
• Ability to collaborate with CAD/design specialists to support packaging and integration activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Engineering degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of engineering experience.
• Prior DRE (Design Release Engineer) experience preferred.
• Experience with wiring systems, wire harnesses, connectors, or electrical distribution components is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with CAD tools and engineering release processes.
