Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer - Milford, MI
Location: Milford, MI

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer to support the development and validation of advanced vehicle control systems and automated driving technologies. This role will be responsible for designing, integrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining HIL simulation environments using dSPACE hardware and software platforms.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain dSPACE Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulators to support customer development and validation activities.
  • Design, build, and integrate wiring and power harnesses for HIL simulators and Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
  • Identify, procure, install, and integrate vehicle hardware components into HIL test environments.
  • Develop simulation solutions usingdSPACE software tools including:
    • ETHCT
    • ASM (Automotive Simulation Models)
    • Vehicle Dynamics
    • AURELION
  • Utilize test and calibration tools such as:
    • ETAS INCA
    • Vehicle Spy
    • CAN-based diagnostic and communication tools
  • Create, integrate, and validate models, software, and hardware within HIL simulation environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, communication, and integration issues related to HIL systems.
  • Support validation activities for advanced vehicle control, active safety, and automated driving systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop innovative simulation and test solutions.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in automotive testing, simulation, controls, or validation environments.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on dSPACE experience.
  • Strong experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) bench integration, debugging, and validation.
  • Experience designing and constructing wiring harnesses including power, Ethernet, CAN, and related vehicle communication networks.
  • Experience creating and modifying Simulink models for HIL applications.
  • Familiarity with CAN communication, ECU integration, and vehicle network architectures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) or Active Safety development programs.
  • Experience with AURELION sensor simulation software.
  • Experience with ASM (Automotive Simulation Models) and vehicle dynamics modeling.
  • Familiarity with automated driving systems and validation methodologies.
  • Experience using ETAS INCA, Vehicle Spy, and similar calibration/instrumentation tools.

    • Expert-level experience required.
  2. HIL Wiring Harness Design & Construction
    • Experience with power distribution, Ethernet, CAN, and ECU connectivity.
  3. dSPACE Simulink Modeling
    • Strong hands-on modeling and simulation development experience.
