Job Title: SCADA Analyst
Location: Raleigh, NC 27607
Pay Rate: $36.00 per hour

Performs SCADA (Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition) and RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) check out of electric field equipment data in a GE Energy Management System (EMS) tool.

The person is responsible for testing, validating, and troubleshooting the communication between electrical field equipment and the utility's control center system.

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is the system that utility operators use to monitor and control electrical equipment remotely.
Examples of information SCADA displays:

  • Breaker open/closed status
  • Voltage levels
  • Current flow
  • Power output
  • Alarms and fault conditions


Operators in a control room use SCADA to see what's happening on the electrical grid in real time.
An RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) is a device located in the field at:

  • Substations
  • Power plants
  • Transmission facilities
  • Distribution sites


It collects data from equipment and sends it back to the SCADA/EMS system. It also receives commands from the control center.
Think of the RTU as the communication link between physical electrical equipment and the control room software.

A GE Energy Management System (EMS) is GE's utility operations platform used by grid operators. It helps:

  • Monitor the power grid
  • Manage outages
  • Control transmission systems
  • Analyze system conditions
  • Dispatch power resources


Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with control systems and/or relay schemes
  • Previous experience with SCADA (Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition) and RTU (Remote Terminal Unit)
  • Previous experience with field equipment testing and commissioning process
  • Experience in utility industry - Understanding of Transmission or Distribution equipment
  • Previous operator experience
