Position Summary
The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, and supporting industrial automation systems to ensure reliable operation and high-efficiency production. This role focuses on PLC programming, robotics, motion systems, and electrical controls, with strong emphasis on Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Fanuc robots, servo control, and VFD applications.
This will be in the life sciences vertical.

Key Responsibilities
PLC & HMI/SCADA Programming
· Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000.
· Program, configure, and maintain HMI applications (FactoryTalk View, PanelView, etc.).
· Implement reliable communication networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profinet, etc.).
Robotics Integration & Support
· Program, teach, and troubleshoot Fanuc industrial robots, including
o TP programming
o I/O integration
o Vision systems (iRVision, if applicable)
· Support robot path optimization, payload configuration, and safeguarding.
Motion Control, Servos & VFDs
· Configure and tune servo systems for precise motion control (e.g., Kinetix platforms).
· Program and commission AC and DC VFDs (PowerFlex families or vendor equivalent).
· Diagnose motor, drive, and motion-related issues to improve performance and reduce downtime.
Controls Design & Documentation
· Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
· Select sensors, actuators, and automation components.
· Maintain documentation: PLC backups, robot programs, electrical prints, and change logs.
Startup, Testing & Troubleshooting
· Lead equipment commissioning, debug, and factory acceptance testing.
· Perform root-cause analysis on automation, robot, servo, and VFD failures.
· Support daily production through rapid response and long-term corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement & Safety
· Identify automation improvements to reduce cycle time and improve reliability.
· Implement safety PLC logic, emergency stop circuits, and machine guarding systems.
· Ensure compliance with NFPA 79, NEC, OSHA, and corporate standards.

Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
· Hands-on programming experience with Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000.
· Practical experience with Fanuc robots, including troubleshooting and path programming.
· Strong understanding of servo systems, motion control, and VFDs.
· Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.

Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with robotics beyond Fanuc (ABB, Yaskawa/Motoman, KUKA).
· Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
· Experience with safety controllers (GuardLogix, Pilz, Sick).
· Understanding of Industry 4.0, data collection, and MES systems.
