Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer - Powertrain Assembly
Position Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer - Powertrain Assembly, you will collaborate with Comau's Powertrain Engineering team to develop innovative solutions for powertrain assembly and test production systems. The team possesses extensive expertise in CNC products, manufacturing processes, customer requirements, and assembly systems.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing concepts, detailed designs, layouts, and bills of materials that meet project requirements using SolidWorks CAD software. You will work closely with manufacturing, commissioning, and project teams to ensure successful implementation of technical solutions that meet customer specifications and process requirements.
Some domestic and international travel may be required for project support, issue resolution, and field verification activities.



Key Responsibilities
Powertrain Tooling & Equipment Design
Design complex tooling and automation solutions for powertrain assembly operations, including:

  • Piston Stuffing Systems
  • Torque Turn Systems
  • Piston Travel & Compression Systems
  • Support Structures
  • Engine and Transmission Assembly Equipment

Engineering & Design

  • Develop complete designs for manual, semi-automatic, and fully automated stations and machines.
  • Create and modify 3D models, 2D drawings, layouts, and assemblies using CAD software.
  • Develop detailed mechanical design drawings, specifications, tooling designs, and equipment documentation.
  • Generate stock lists, bills of materials, and assembly layouts.
  • Modify and revise designs to address operational deficiencies and improve manufacturability.
  • Review and approve engineering design changes.

Project Execution

  • Review and interpret customer specifications, corporate standards, and plant requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable local, national, and customer-specific standards.
  • Participate actively in project team meetings and design reviews.
  • Present engineering concepts, proposals, technical reports, and project findings.
  • Support manufacturing and commissioning teams during equipment build, installation, and launch activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during implementation.

Documentation & Leadership

  • Prepare and review engineering reports and technical documentation.
  • Create sketches, drawings, and supporting design documentation as required.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to designers, drafters, and technicians when needed.


Required Experience & Knowledge
Powertrain Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical design and engineering experience in powertrain assembly systems.
  • Experience designing equipment for powertrain manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Engine block assembly
    • Cylinder heads
    • Manual transmissions
    • Automatic transmissions
    • Engine testing systems
    • Cylinder head testing systems
    • Transmission testing systems
    • Powertrain assembly processes and manufacturing systems

Technical Skills

  • Strong mechanical design and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes and automated assembly equipment.
  • Ability to develop innovative engineering solutions that meet customer and production requirements.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams throughout project execution.


Software Requirements

  • SolidWorks (Required)
  • AutoCAD
  • Siemens NX
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Other Microsoft Office applications
